USA 2011

OK here are the first of a series of random photographs that I took in the US. In all we had 6 weeks, visiting New York, Niagara Falls, LA, the coast to San Francisco, overland to Las Vegas. From there we joined another 23 photographers for a 20 day trip around some amazing National Parks.

My first photo is from Antelope Canyon, near Page. It is a spectacular canyon, with the most amazing rock formations and colors.

This photo is of El Capitano, one of the grand rock masses in Yosemite National Park.

Benalla Camera Club: August 2011 Competition Entries

The themes for this months entries were: Mounted prints = The need for speed, and EDPI = Open (anything goes). My 'speed' photos come from a club outing day at Winton. They are the best of a bad bunch but by the end of the day I think I finally worked out how to 'pan' and now I'm keen to go back there again.

MOUNTED PRINT: 'Transcar"

MOUNTED PRINTS - "Oops"

EDPI "Time at Melbourne Central"

EDPI "Lancefield Bank"

(I know I've put this one up before, but I like to keep all my comp entries together!!)

Benalla Camera Club - July 2011 competition

This month the competition themes are Photojournalism (EDPI) and Black & White Open for the mounted print section.

I love black and white photography, and would love the opportunity to do more work in this area. Unfortunately it also means more time in photoshop refining those skills. Here is what I came up with for this month.

I love photojournalism, (but I don't think I'm very good at it) and this is an area that I would like to work on. I love the concept of photographing the 'ordinary' in peoples lives, and I need to be more confident in approaching people and just asking if I can take the photo.

When the floods were in Benalla last year, there were some boys riding their bikes throught the waters. I overheard them say that they were hungry and wanted some chips, so I offered to buy them some hot chips in return for them being photographed. This is what I got....

and my last photo is of my gorgeous cat, Sassy. I've wanted to enter this picture for some time now, and this seems to be an appropriate catagory. Of course I'm biased, she's mine, she's cute and she's clever.

Lancefield, June 2011

I went off to Lancefield for a scrapbooking retreat over the Queen's Birthday long weekend. For just 15 seconds in the morning we had the most MAGIC light (and then it was gone!!)

Benalla Golf Club

Last year the Benalla Camera Club was asked to assist with some photographs so that the Benalla Golf Club could update its website. 12 months later we are finally going to have our first exhibition (my first with the camera club, and the first for the camera club for many years). The exhibition starts on July 19th 2011 and will run for 11 days. The official launch is on the 19th July, with Simon Klose (Benalla Art Gallery) officially opening the exhibition. Here are three of my pics that have made it to the exhibition.

A photo in the Ensign

I finally cracked my first photo for the Benalla Ensign. This photo is taken across Benalla Lake towards the Benalla-Monash Bridge and the Benalla Art Gallery first thing in the morning (magic hour light).
